Introduction
This annotated bibliography has reviewed four journal articles or book chapters, three of which are related to a specific topic, and one related to critical thinking in business (see Reference list for full details of the source). The following paper contains annotations and a critical analysis of the published work.
Annotations and Critical Analysis
The article by Nalband and Al-Amri, professor of The College Of Business Administration at King Saud University, mainly concentrate on the research which study the 21 companies in Riyadh practices of corporate social responsibility . In addition, this article provides first-hand statistics from interview and personal observation, which indicated that the environmental friendliness, legal responsibility and ethical responsibility account for major part in corporate social responsibility.
The authors also clearly state the difference between charity and corporate social responsibility, and represent an important internal analysis of corporate social responsibility related to business in Saudi Arabia where desire to apply corporate social responsibility in process of institutional reform. Moreover, the article gives some useful suggestions about the standards that evaluate corporate social responsibility in business should be set up .It is a direct source that I can adopt for my research essay. What’s more, the article mentions wide range of corporate social responsibility not just limited in specific business or industry. However, the main drawback to this source is that the paper lack of specific example to demonstrate how to apply corporate social responsibility in decision-making of Business.
Corporate Social Responsibility: Strategic Implications (Mc Williams et al 2006) collect different scholar’s theories of the corporate social responsibility and it could serve as the fundamental source for my research essay. Mc Williams et al (2006) claim that the research on corporate social responsibility still in preliminary stage. Therefore, It established a extend framework of corporate social responsibility which could examine the strategic role of corporate social responsibility in decision- making of business activity, such as product promotion, company’s reputation building.
The article takes further than other analysis, as it provides particular cases that reveal that corporate social responsibility provides evaluation standard for decision making. This paper directly shows the process that corporate social responsibility apply in decision making of business. For instance, the authors think corporate social responsibility could become an integral element of a company’s business because corporate social responsibility could attribute to company’s reputation enhancement or protection. While the study is from 2006 and the data is outdated. They could be criticized for not summary the final definition of corporate social responsibility.
Mohr et al (2001) investigate the impact of corporate social responsibility on buying behavior according to different background consumers. Like above article the paper takes depth interview and research, which try to measure consumer awareness or knowledge of corporate social responsibility. Otherwise, the authors point out that corporate social responsibility has a significant impact on consumer behavior through case to case analysis.
The article provide a valuable summary of the consumer’s responses to companies who commit corporate social responsibility. On the other hand, majority of respondents support corporate social responsibility, but purchasing behaviors are still affected by traditional factors, such as price and quality. The research not only useful for front-line academic study but also for researchers like ourselves, who are seeking for a best summary of causes. The paper involves abundant data related to Business, which indicates the close relationship between corporate social responsibility and purchasing behavior. However, it still calls for more extent case study about corporate social responsibility practical appliance in decision-making of business.
