8th Grade Summer Reading Book Recommendation
Book Title: The Bully Book (ebook form only)
Author: Eric Kahn Gale
Publisher/Date: Publish Green 2011
I would recommend The Bully Book by:Eric Kahn Gale because it is very anticipating and it always leaves you waiting every chapter. The Bully Book takes place in a school and a neighborhood. A fifth grader named Eric Haskins is the main character and he struggles getting bullied by his peers. It started because of a book that is passed around by fifth graders that teaches you how to be the coolest person in school. Unfortunately to be the coolest person in school you need to pick a grunt, the person who is the lowest of them all, someone that everyone looks down on and treats them badly. This is where Eric's quest began in finding out why he was picked to be the grunt.
I think the writers message was to show the reader how it feels to be on the other side of the bullying and the cruelty. The author also wanted to show the readers how much someone's life can be changed by bullying. The main character Eric was very much changed by the end of the book. He started out being a normal kid changed by his peers then lost his friends and became obsessive over the quest to change himself. He practically goes mad because of the bully book.
This book is a great read not only for people who are going threw bullying or peer pressure but for anyone who has experienced school life or witnessed bullying. It's also very humorous and you can connect to some of the situations he goes threw. Most teens would enjoy this book because they allude to most teen problems. The book teaches the reader that being "cool" doesn't mean hurting people's feelings. Furthermore I would defiantly recommend this book as a must read for teens.
