The book "Fahrenheit 451" is set in the 24th century where their world it is different from the one we live in today. This 'new world' is controlled by the media, censorship and overpopulation. The Television replaces family and the individuals are not acknowledged. The book fits the theme of utopia in a way that this 'new world' of theirs perfect and that there is nothing wrong with burning books so you don't have to think and it is fine when the firefighters create fire rather than stop it. The book starts with the protagonist, Guy Montag who is a firefighter that burns books for living that accidently meets Clarisse, a young girl after coming from work. Clarisse is an odd individual that is different from everyone else and makes Montag curious about her. Montag is living basically between 2 walls, his wife communicates with technology rather than his husband and at work he creates fire rather than stop it. When meeting a girl that is out of the ordinary and doesn't think like and do what everyone does that intrigues Montage. He learns a lot of things from Clarisse, and that's why it's ironic because Clarisse is only a young girl and he is a married man so how can she know more than him? The narrator of story is talking in third person. The narrator is effective because it always follows Montags point of view. The fact that the setting is in the 24th century, I believe it creates greater emphasis on the theme of Utopia. The initial problem that Guy Montag is facing is that he doesn't feel anymore. His wife doesn't even recognize him like she used to. All the love they shared before has gone and he literally said he does not love her. His initial problem is that he lost who he used to be, he used to be a happy man but now he can't even find his smile. He is interested in reading and thinking and finding out what is wrong with books that they have to burn them but can't seem to do that due to the laws. When reading the book you feel like you are on the edge of cliff wondering what is going to happen. The author uses anaphora as a literary device and I believe it was effective because it shows the way Guy Montag is living. Every day is the same. Nothing has changed, he goes to work and burns books and goes home and finds his wife communicating to the television in which she believes is her family.
