The Blind Side

The movie The Blind Side can be considered many different genres. In the following pages we will be examining some of the aspects of the movie. Cinematography, editing, and other areas of the movie will be covered.

The Blind Side can be called an American drama. The film could also be called a comedy, an autobiography, a sports film, or even an inspirational film. Whatever genre it is categorized in, it is an excellent film. The Blind Side was released in November 2009, by Warner Brothers Film Productions. The film was written and directed by John Lee Hancock. The cast in the films cast includes Sandra Bullock, Quinton Aaron, Tim McGraw, Kathy Bates, Lily Collins, and Jae Head The film is based on a book written by Michael Lewis, who is the main character of the film and the film is a true story. The films gross revenue was over $309 million and was budgeted at $29 million. Sandra Bullock won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress on the film. The film was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture.

This film follows a homeless African American man named Michael Oher, who is from a broken home. He is taken in by the Touhy's; who are a well to do white family. The Thouys help Michael bring out his full potential. While living in his new environment, away from the "bad side of town" Michael faces a whole set of new challenges with discipline and hard work. Much more than what he is used to. He becomes a student and a football player, working hard with the help of his coaches and his new family, Michael becomes an All-American offensive left tackle. At the same time he helped the Thouys' to have some of their own very big self-discoveries.

In describing the misc-en-scene and editing in this film. This film uses many close ups, joy, and sadness are some of the emotions the viewer is seeing. This film is meant to emphasize emotions, so the use of the close ups is a good idea for this particular film. Close ups also allow the viewer to believe the characters position and makes them feel more involved in the character. Long shots in the film were done very well. In the scene where Michael is walking down the street alone in the rain makes the viewer see he has nowhere to go or no one to help him out. The viewer begins to feel sorry for him and his position in life. This film is showing two sides of a city in America, so the use of special effects is not needed. Using special effects would make the movie seem more realistic. This film is an autobiography based on the book written by the main character Michael Oher, to use special effects would make the film seem somewhat unrealistic.

The sound in this film had several excellent choices of sound and music. It kept the viewers attention and sometimes left the viewer on the edge of the seat. Song selections such as, "Going up the Country," by Canned Heat, "Southern
