The Advantages of Online Schooling
In the recent years, there has been the debate over whether or not online schooling is a better choice for students rather than traditional schooling. As the technological advancements are increasing more than ever, so have the ways students are able to learn. People have come to realized that traditional schooling has several flaws. Now, there are many reasons why online schooling is superior than traditional, but the few are the flexibility it gives students, improvements in technical skills, and independence.
The convenience and flexibility of online schooling makes it the most appealing as the students can plan their studies throughout the rest of the day. Rather than waking up with little sleep to class, and barely focusing on what the teacher is teaching, a student could sleep in to work on their studies at a later time that fits them. Studies have even shown that ,“when the school day starts later and teens get more sleep, both grades and standardized test scores go up,”(LA Times). Whether it's late at night or early in the morning, scholars are able to study at their peak with concentration. The material to be able to learn the subject is always available, so they will not have to commute everyday to class. In general, one of the main advantages of online schooling is flexibility.
Another advantage of online schooling is how it could improve one's technical skills. With the vast improvements in technology, people have to be updated on what`s constantly the new thing. Online courses help tremendously with that as students learn how to turn things in online, share documents, and incorporate audios/videos. Spending more time online could also help with knowing how to use the computer well and most importantly, learning how to type faster. These days, technical skills are of major importance therefore, online schooling is a better choice.
Last, but not least, is the independence it gives students. Teens generally want to have that feeling of freedom. Taking online classes is a huge responsibility because of how all the studies must be done purely by one`s motivation and will. It teaches students to manage their time carefully throughout the day, or else they will fall behind quickly. However, it can be quite challenging as students can abuse their time spent. Online schooling makes it a lot easier to procrastinate which may be the downside. No one is watching over their shoulder telling them to work on their assignment. It all depends on each student's study habits. On the other hand, this could prepare them in the upcoming future during college. Overall, they will be a much more independent and responsible scholar.
