This article is called “Shop Jeen: teen site conquers social media but faces customer backlash,” it was written by Liza Darwin on September 7, 2015. This article discusses a young twenty-year-old entrepreneur and how social media helped her business; however at the same time receive harsh criticism due to poor management. Erin Yogasundrum the CEO and founder of Shop Jeen started her business back in 2012 while attending college at George Washington University. What influenced her to start her business was her many experiences working at internships with Alexander Wang and Vogue. Erin’s products are heavily influenced by the Tumblr post, snap chat phenomena, and the up to date teen slangs. Which consists of many provocative quotes like “Turnt Jesus,” “Supreme Bitch.” As a teenager Erin made money by selling Celine handbags on ebay and celebrity autographs. She used her savings to create her own e-shop in her dorm room thus, the start of Shop Jeen. As her business grew Erin knew she could not do it alone so she gave up her full ride scholarship to George Washington and left for Los Angeles.
Social media like Instagram helped Erin raise her business; due to the many followers the numbers of perspective customers grew. However, just social media could not help this F-rated business and management started becoming a problem. It all started when Chanel sued the business for copyright reason for using their iphone case design. Along with lawsuits, previous employees or customers complained regarding online store. Controversy kept piling up about delayed payments, false promises, and many more. Previous employees commented about the company saying that they have no moral values when it comes to customer service or reimbursement failures. Along with that low wages, and lack of management skills the business has not been doing well.
