The Islamic Jihad group is identified these days as the Egyptian Islamic Jihad. This group has been active since the 1970's. This group is under a worldwide impediment from the United Nations due to the affiliation with the Al-Qaeda. Many governments have banned this group, including The Russian Federation. Ayman al-Zawahiri led the group since 1991. The main goal of this group was to overthrow the Egyptian government which was planned to be converted Islamic state. Many years later the interest of this group grew to include in attacking United States along with Israel, with part of their focus pointed at Egypt. This group has notion to have acquired setbacks from several arrests of operatives around the world; one of the most recent being in Lebanon and Yemen. In 2001 Al Qaeda and Egyptian Islamic Jihad became recognized as Qaeda al-Jihad. This merge began in 1980 which came from some clusters of the Islamist groups. The Cairo branch which was under the rule of Mohammad abd al-Salam Faraj. The Saidi branch was under the rule of Karam Zuhdi.
On October 6, 1981 the plot to assassinate the Egyptian president Anwar Sadat was carried out. Because of the assassination, the Egyptian government captured all members of the Tanzim al-Jihad. During the Egyptian trial, the government was rather easy on them; only the four direct perpetrators and Faraj the Cairo leader received the death penalty. The Islamic group al-Gama'a al-Islamivva was later formed out of two terrorist corporations, the Saidis and the Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Abud Zumour, an army intelligence officer, was the leader of the Cairo militants. He is currently serving a life sentence for his plot to kill the leader Sadat. Even though the Islamic Jihad was a very modest group, they were incredibly disciplined. The attempted assassination of Hosni Mubarak in 1995 was another failed setback. The Sudanese intelligences as well as al-Gama'a al-Islamivva had combined forces which had secretly based in Sudan. Mustafa Hamza was a senior member plus a large component of the Al-Qaeda network. He was the party responsible for the attempted assassination of Hosni Mubarak.
The Jihad was the group that was perceived to be responsible for several lethal suicide bombings. Some of these include: U.S. Embassy, Israeli Embassy, and also the Uzbek prosecutor general's office. The Specially Designated Global Terrorist organization in Uzbekistan is the official designated organization with the United States State Department. The Jihad group looked to overpower the Uzbek president, Islam Karimov, which would result in an establishing of Islamic government in the region. On May 12, 2005 the U.S. captured the financial assets from the Jihad's to prevent the group's movement.
