Taking the GEMS test it designated that I am an Oriented Team Player - Team Captain. I agree with this determination. I do care about my job and about others. I care what others think about my job performance. I work well with a team, but I also work well alone. I strive to better myself and my career with every opportunity that presents itself. I typically take the lead and I am often the leader when no one else will step up to the plate.
One of the traits that I do possess is that I hate to sit down in meetings. In my current job I have to go to maintenance meetings every Saturday morning. I believe that during the meeting we always revisit the same stuff, and most of the time the problems that arise in the meetings do not get solved until I meet with people in a smaller group or one on one. Another trait is that I get satisfaction out of my job. When I do a great job and get commended for my work there is nothing better to me. I will often work late just to accomplish tasks that other people could not believe would get done in the amount of time that I have accomplished it.
While I do work well in groups, I believe that my best work is done alone. Often when I am given a task at work I will work on the project alone. I will come up with my ideas and determinations, and then I will bounce the ideas off my colleagues. I do not typically sit and work with a group to accomplish my missions. I am definitely not a team player when it comes to my career. I do not believe that I can rely on anybody else to progress in my career. I will help others progress in their careers but I do not rely on them for myself. If I were to depend on somebody else, I would never progress.
The information that made me realize something about myself is that I do strive to be a team leader. I never realized, but I do tend to take the lead when nobody else will step forward. I like to get things done as quickly as possible, but I also like to receive the credit for accomplishing tasks. I can be a popular person, but that is only when somebody is on the winning team with me. When you are a leader, people often do not like the tasks that are delegated to them; therefore sometimes you cannot always be popular. I do like to share my ideas, but only when I have determined on my own that they are correct and good ideas.
I will use this information that I have received to notice a little bit more about myself and the ways that I approach people. Not everybody is a natural leader. This might make them uncomfortable. This information has shown me that I am comfortable in the leadership role and that I strive off the positive attention that I receive with filling this role. I will remember not to get upset if I do not receive the attention that I believe I deserve, that is just a bad side to my Grand Result Type.
