In Lorraine Hansberry's play A Raisin in the Sun (1959), the insurance money represent the false happiness, and it misguided the family. Walter received an absurd relationship with the money, forcing the family to change Walters incorrigible dream of owning a liquor store. Mama always told Walter he talks "so much 'bout money"(I. ii) and Walter repeated "it's life, Mama"(I. ii). Walter's adamant attitude toward the money perished Mama's dream to keep the freedom and family into one piece.

In the 1995 play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, the fifty cents and the dollar Walter gave to Travis reveals that Walter hid poverty. This changed the way that Travis thought of the money given by Walter. Walter doesn't want Ruth to "tell the boy things like that..."(I. i) because Travis can get alienated by other people around him. This obviously concludes that Walter needs to support Travis by giving him money that they don't even have.In the 1995 play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, the fifty cents and the dollar Walter gave to Travis reveals that Walter hid poverty.
