- How sustainable the product and organization is;
Historically, The Steel industry operated in unsustainable ways, but currently companies are racing to address these issues and to create sustainable supply chains. Forward-thinking businesses understand the critical issues related to water, energy, and waste associated with developing a sustainable supply chain. There is an ongoing debate to identify strategies that strike a balance between the need for companies to be profitable and also to be sustainable.
Good governance is a guiding principle for us. It means ensuring that, as a company, we comply fully with the external regulations and reporting requirements that come with being a listed company, and commit to acting responsibly and with integrity, and that individual employees behave accordingly. Our environmental, social and ethical effectiveness is monitored through audits conducted by our internal assurance team.
Because consumers demand products with the lowest prices, companies pressure their downstream suppliers to provide the lowest cost product. Finding innovative solutions that result in a more efficient and sustainable supply chain is paramount.
In my company all of the products manufactured and distributed are engineered to provide the most eco-responsible options available in the industry. Our metal roofs contain up to 30 per cent recycled material and are 100 per cent recyclable at the end of their service life, and having very much present the premise the five Rs(Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle). Our metal roof is low maintenance and can last up to 4 times as long as traditional roofing material; meaning that the energy expended in its manufacture, installation, upkeep and renovation is much less than other alternatives.
As one of our newest incentives, we recognize the importance of addressing our environmental impact. We are reducing our carbon emissions footprint in our business with Bullfrog Power. We have chosen 100% green natural gas to eliminate the gas-related emissions footprint of our operations by 2020.
2. Suggest an approach to increase sustainability using the 10 steps for creating a sustainable supply chain; and
In this section I will layout the 10 sustainable development outcomes developed and well put together by our mother company, and from which my company and sister companies adhere to, since it is the mother company mandate
- People:
Produce steel and extract minerals without either fatalities or injuries; employees and contractors, must not only follow our strict rules, but take responsibility for ensuring a safe environment for everyone.
- Products
We need to innovate to ensure that steel is continually anticipating and responding to the next challenge in sustainable lifestyles. We need to work with our customers to rethink the design of their products to promote reuse.
- Infrastructure
Investing in innovation, developing new products and engineering components for the construction and infrastructure sectors, and working alongside our customers to meet their needs and anticipate future trends.
