Super Size Me is a 2004 American documentary film directed by Morgan Spurlock, an American independent filmmaker. Spurlock's film follows a 30-day period from February 1 to March 2, 2003 during which he ate only McDonald's food for every meals. The film documents this lifestyle's drastic effect on Spurlock's physical and psychological well-being, and explores the fast food industry's corporate influence. Morgan started out weighing 185 pounds with 11% body fat. The doctors ranked his fitness above average. Throughout the documentary the narrator told many statistics to help support his case. In the next paragraph, I will share a few of these surprising statistics with you.

Obesity is a pretty serious issue in Mississippi; One in four people are obese in the state of Mississippi. More than 60% of Americans are obese. There are an average of 400,000 deaths per year from illnesses related to obesity. Each day one in four Americans eats fast food. Forty-six million people in the world are served daily at McDonalds. There are more McDonalds in Manhattan than anywhere in the world; nearly eighty-three McDonalds. That's four per square mile. In the past five years medical cost for diabetes has doubled.

Since Morgan is eating only McDonalds for every meal and his body is paying the price. He is continuing his doctor visits to monitor his health. Each day he starts to feel worse. On day eighteen he feels horrible. His cholesterol has gone up and his overall health is not so good. Doctor says he has a fat liver. Morgan continued his research by calling several nutritionists. Two out of one hundred said eat fast food more than twice a week and forty-five said never eat fast food

After viewing this film, we can know that Americans are becoming more obese due to their desires for fast food. Also the movie did little to change my perceptions toward fast food. Like everything else in life, I believe that moderation is the key. It is okay to enjoy fast food as long as there is moderation in consumption.
