"You have a choice. Live or die. Every breath is a choice. Every minute is a choice. To be or not be" (Suicide). Most people live day by day, take things for granted, and often complain about the littlest things. Suicide is an act of intentionally killing one self. Suicidal events are due to emotional stress or not being able to tolerate any other inflicted pain. From an internet source, "Suicide is the eighth leading cause in America" (Suicide), and should be taken very serious. While most people live in a daily routine, some who are struggling and need a hand to help them, are trapped in a state of mind that is unbelievably daunting. The thought of killing yourself may give you the chills, but for others it is an escape from all worries and sadness.
There are many leading causes to the act of intentionally killing one self. A person contemplates suicide because of personal emotions that are built up. Such emotions can be caused by a death of a loved one, feeling "trapped" in a negative situation, feeling helpless, low self-esteem, bullying, horrible disappointment, and the inability to deal with a perceived failure. Although there are many other causes of suicide, "the number one cause would be untreated depression" (Facts). Statistics show, 80% of people who contemplate on committing suicide do tell somebody, but the other 20% commit the act without letting anyone know. Consequently, the characteristics of a person contemplating suicide depends on the causes. A person who wants to commit suicide is completely certain that there is something wrong with their life. There is an enormous amount of stress that this person may tolerate and feel as if they can no longer cope with any of it. People who think of attempting suicide are very angry, discreet, uncooperative, and negative. As the characteristics worsen, "being depressed is the most common emotion a person feels" (Warning). Most suicidal thoughts can be caused by consistent let downs, leading to depression. Even though there are hotlines, therapists, and even medications to better a person's attitude, they are often ignored. Suicidal people often isolate themselves, in hope to avoid all personal problems. An online internet support center stated, "30% to 40% of persons who commit suicide have made a previous attempt" (Warning). These percentages greatly relate to isolation. Isolating oneself does not only affect that person, but it also affects the people around them.
The toll of a person contemplating suicide affects their parents, siblings, grandparents, and friends left behind in a devastating manner. The challenge to overcome the loss of a loved one is overwhelming to cope with, especially if this suicidal person disconnected themselves from both family and friends. As relating to a real life family situation, a father lost his son who committed suicide. There was no warning what so ever and this horrible news was delivered by the son's friend. Family and friends were greatly impacted by this event, and mostly everyone was unbelievably shocked. Mr. Heredia stated, "This has been the hardest thing for me to cope with, no one will understand
