I think in my opinion that it has improved tremendously. Or at least that's what we think. Back 100 years ago, the structures were probably more sturdy but people did not have the facility to acquire loans to improve their homes or to design it. Now a days we have the accomodation of requesting for a loan to fix the house of design it. Back then it was just built by the same owners and at their own expense. We see pictures of houses from the 1800's and we may think that it wasn't as pretty as the homes now but probably;y back then that's all they could afford to built so for those times it was probably a mansion.
As time goes by, we become more greedy. We see the neighbor put up a new porch and we want to do the same. The neighbor puts in new french doors and we want them as well but do we really need them? A century ago, having a roof over your head was sufficient enough. Everyone had the same so there was not as much pressure as today.
When I looked up this information on the internet, I came across all these websites that talked about how improved we have become in the designs of our homes and how important it is to build a sturdy structure. Public buildings have been re-designed to accommodate the needs of today's people. The material that was used in the building of structures were mud, sticks, grass, moss, rocks or any other material supplied by the earth including wood. Now we use other man made materials such as bricks, blocks and cement to build sturdier structures.
