Raytheon was founded in 1922 as an American appliance company and a manufacturer of machinery, motors and components. Today Raytheon is considered to be a world leader in defense. With more than 71,000 employee they are well equipped to meet the requests of customers in over 80 countries such as Australia, Canada, Japan and Germany. Raytheon's Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board since January 2004, is William H Swanson. Raytheon Leadership is also comprised of four Senior Vice Presidents and fifteen Vice Presidents, covering several program systems, accounting and communication teams.

Raytheon's Vision; "To be the most admired defense and aerospace systems company thought out world-class people, innovation and technology. (Raytheon, 2012)" With this vision Raytheon developed strategic goals and objectives to become the world's largest defense contractor. Raytheon Company's goals are comprised of four main categories, customer goals along with their fourth strategy is to continue to be a customer based company that relies on the performance relationships and solutions for the customer. The second category is the finical growth. To develop and obtain revenue and improve company cash flow. The Third goal is to attract and obtain top notch people and continue their leadership in diversity. Raytheon's fourth goal is that in the same of many large companies; "To improve Productivity through the Integrated Product Development System (IPDS), Earned Value Management System (EVMS) and Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI)." (Raytheon, 2012)

Along with strong goals and strategies Raytheon has strong values. People, Integrity, Commitment, and Excellence all depend on the company's employees to be respectful of each other, to be honest and forthright, accepting of personal responsibilities and accountability, and continue to improve their personal performance and innovation. With setting high values for their employee, Raytheon in successful in developing their company for future growth.

For a company like Raytheon relevant historical events are plentiful. In 1950 Raytheon's Lark Missile became the first guided missile to knocks a test drone out of the air while in flight. In doing so the Lark Missile became the first missile-mounted guidance system and continuous wave radar and capable of intercepting moving objects in flight. One of Raytheon's most famous innovations was in 1969, the landing of Apollo 11 on the moon. Raytheon along with Texas instrument and Hughes played a key role in this endeavor. Raytheon took part by building the computer that guided the space vehicle in its journey to the moon, and Apollo's on-board microwave tube transmitted the radio and TV signals to earth, which was what made it possible for millions to observe history through live TV and radio. Though substantial innovations and mergers with some of the top companies like E-Systems in 1995, Texas Instruments In 1997, which sold its defense business to Raytheon, and Hughes Aircraft Company out of Tucson Arizona in 1997. These companies along with many others have come together to form one company with one vision. This is the vision that Raytheon currently strives for today.
