Situation Analysis
Nitish an MBA graduate from XLRI (Jamshedpur) and an engineer from IIT, Madras decided to change his present job with the aim of higher earning prospects. He also felt that he had gained enough experience in the area of preparing bids for projects and business plans during his two years stay in the MNC consultancy firm and that he could leverage his experience in IT and Finance for a better job
While looking for a new job Nitish got a reply from his friend Arvind who was working in Solutions Unlimited. On seeing Nitish's interest, he forwarded his profile to the HR department since the company had a policy of recruitment through referrals only. Subsequently, Nitish had a telephonic interview with Mr. Kapoor, Director Marketing, who expressed interest in Nitish.
Nitish was called to Solutions Unlimited, Hyderabad where he had an interview with Venkat, AOO (HR). The problem started during salary negotiation when he met Meena, OO (looking after HR functions). Firstly, Nitish's attitude at the very first meet left a bad impression on Meena. Secondly, his salary calculation using calculator during the meeting was very unprofessional and was disliked by Meena. Lastly, the intervention of Mr. Kapoor in the salary negotiation and Nitish's appointment further increased his differences with Meena.
After joining Solutions Unlimted at Hyderabad, Nitish very soon realized that the HR department was very unsupportive. His bills were not cleared, Venkat didn't reply to his query regarding the assurances made through email before joining. He later found that his job roles were not clearly defined and personal remarks made by Meena and Mr. Algau, Director Operations made him to rethink about his decision of joining the new company. Also, it appeared to him that the HR department didn't consult his mentor, Mr Kurana while taking decisions wrt to his job assignments. These incidents only reflected that company didn't have a clear policy.
During his orientation in Amsterdam, Nitish met Mr Manish Chawla, MD who offered him to develop business plan of Solutions Unlimted, India for the next five years with Madhumita (Associate Director Finance) and Arvind. Nitish received an appreciation towards his contribution. Nitish always tried to improve his interpersonal relation with Meena however it couldn't work and later he got an order to go to Nagpur.
