James Gabarion is an author and professor at Loyola University in Chicago. He has conducted researches as to what causes children to have violent behaviors and how they cope with stress. I feel Gabarino viewpoint is well stated and true. In my opinion, children in today’s society develop at a faster pace and their social and cognitive skills depends on their environment. Children are active learners who construct knowledge from their environment. Also, I believe development occurs in stages.
The Aims of Socialization enables children to learn about what they need to know in order to integrate into society. (Berns, 013, p. 36). The one that is most valuable to me is self-concept. Self-Concept is “the individual’s belief about himself or herself, including the person’s attributes and who and what the self is”. The importance of this socialization is that your identity is who you are. If you know who you are than life woes should not be hard to handle.
My future goals are to help battered and abused women, neglected and abused children, and families of domestic violence. Once these individuals know that someone is there for them truthfully and willing to offer help, time, and love, they will feel better about life and their situations. Counseling will be the key factor as to helping these person’s. Helping anyone in a crisis, one should establish a relationship with their client, set goals, and have a plan for them to achieve their desired dreams.
