I believe that almost everyone has heard or leaned about the bad effects that smoking can cause to us. We have heard about it in television, magazines or even in the radio. We have also heard many true stories of people who have suffered the consequences of smoking. Some people have died from a disease caused by smoking and others have never been normal again. However smoking is still a bad habit that some people cannot control and continue to use. These smokers are not only putting their own lives in risk, they are also putting the lives of the people who surround them in danger. Second hand smoke contains cancer causing and other toxic substances and sometimes smoke that is breathed away can be even worse than the smoke breather out by the actual smoker. It is very sad that most of the smokers don't care about their health and especially about the health of other people around them. Their addiction to tobacco has completely blinded them and cannot not do anything about it. Many people start smoking since the young age, especially in their teenage years. Every person is different and their reasons of beginning to smoke are also different. Some people begin smoking due to the stress and pressure of their lives. They find relaxation during smoking and find it addictive. Some other don't take it seriously and begin smoking for fun, and after time goes by they are already addicted. I have also heard stories about children who smoke because they learned it by their parents. It is a big mistake that parents smoke in front of their children. First of all because young children can more easily breath out the smoke and the toxic is more dangerous for a undeveloped body. And second of all it is not good for the children to grow up in that kind of environment that can make of those children future smokers. My aunt was a smoker and she personally smoked in front of her children. It is really sad that both of her children and crazy smokers too. Today my aunt suffers from chronic bronchitis and continues to smoke. However she has decided to stop smoking after 25 years. She says that she it is the hardest thing to do but that slowly she will make it.
Besides the diseases, smoking is bad for many other things. Cigarettes are expensive and sometimes you cannot buy the necessary things that you may need in order to be able to buy them. Sometimes the smoke will make your teeth yellow and ruin the dental work that you may have done to your teeth. I am an occasional smoker. I have always tried not to be addicted to smoking. I thank God that I can live without it. Two years ago, I got some nice dental work done. Two years later I realized that the bonding I had done to my teeth wasn't in the same shape as before. My dentist said that it was due to smoking and even though it was occasional it still had a bad effect on my teeth. Due to my dentist's advice I decided not to smoke ever again.
