History

Todd Greene invented a razor specifically designed for men who opt to shave their heads. Greene attempted to sell his concept to two large makers of men's grooming products only to be rejected. He took it upon himself to develop the product and after 12 weeks he was able to take his product to the market. At 2.25 inches long, the HeadBlade resembles a miniature yellow Jet Ski and fastens loosely to the finger. Greene developed the razor by baking clay prototypes in the kitchen of his apartment in Santa Monica, California.

Greene's HeadBlade debuted for sale in June 1999 on a website he built himself. He stirred up interest for the $15 item by posting messages on web bulletin boards that he created for his target customer, which included balding men, athletes, members of the military, and aspiring bohemians. In order to keep costs low Greene passed shipping costs on to his customers and preferred to pay hired hands on an as need basis.

The razor's sleek design frequently wows editors rewarding Greene with free publicity in such magazines as Sports Illustrated, Details, Entertainments Weekly, The Advocate, and Playboy. The HeadBlade has also won national design awards because it is so pure and functional. The single function of the HeadBlade was to make shaving easy and it was based on some very simple design principals:

1) The user had to be able to shave by feel (meaning the razor had to sit close to the head and the user be able to touch the head with fingers while shaving)

2) The razor needed two compact points to create a 'suspension' allowing the blade to automatically pivot.

3) The razor had to be compatible with current razors sold in most retailers.

With Greene's guidance, HeadBlade Inc has pioneered the head care market and expanded the company's product range to incorporate complete skin care. HeadBlade products can now be purchased in over 15,000 stores.
