Should We Get Rid Of The Electoral College?
*Standard Form Argument*
1.The Electoral College should not continue because it threatens democratic ideals.
2.Fails to generate equality throughout the states even though that is what the Electoral College strived for.
3. It unfairly gives states with low populations a higher amount of electoral votes then the amount of electoral votes they actually should be given.
4. Some citizens votes count for more, and some states count for less, due to each state is received three electoral votes no matter what the population is.
5. Voter turnout is insignificant because the Electoral College is a winner-take-all process.
6. The Electoral College is centralizing our government, taken away power from the citizens of the United States due to the fact that if your state wins by one vote or one million, you will still get all that state's electoral votes.
7. The Electoral College fails to accurately reflect the national popular vote because you can be elected into office with only 22% popular vote.
8. It discourages third party interference because it would be too difficult for them to get any electoral votes
9. The risk is greatly increased from faithless electors while the Electoral College is running.
Conclusion:Therefore, if the Electoral College continues to run, our nation will be forced into federalism. If we want our country to become a stronger national government, then we would have to abolish the Electoral College so we could represent the countries public opinion.
