Should Teenagers be tried as adults? Everyone has different opinions but in my case I agree because I'm old enough and smart enough to know what's right and what's wrong so unless you're mentally impaired then there should be no excuse to committing any crime. The amounts of violence in our world and generation today shows us that the fact that if you commit a crime, you can get into lot of trouble even spend the rest of your life in jail has not reached the violent crime offenders especially our young offenders. Young teenagers who commit serious crimes should be tried in an adult court system. Trying teenagers as adults would convince potential and actual teenage offenders that if they commit adult crimes, they will serve adult times. As my mom would say... "If you want to act like an adult you will get treated like one."
Almost every day I can bet you see on the news that a teenager somewhere around the world has committed a violent crime, something you wouldn't even think a teen is capable of doing. For example Daniel marsh 16, who was once known as a hero for saving his dad, is now being tried as an adult in court for a double homicide.
As I can see teens in my generation don't fear the law because they don't think that they will get in trouble. And if they do, they know they have a better chance of getting off easy because they are tried as teens and not adults. I think we should be tougher on those teens who decide to commit violent crimes. There should be a law that states everyone over 12 years old will be tried as adults. I can't say it's going to stop all the criminals together but it will definitely convince potential and actual teenage offenders that committing adult crimes will get you hard adult time.
If we were try teenage offenders of violent crime in adult court, adult charges would then force them to think like adults about their actions. They would no longer be able to walk the fence between being an adult or being a child. Trying teenagers who perpetrate violent crimes in adult court would be a huge justice.
There is no doubt in my mind that trying teens in a adult court would not only benefit our society but demonstrate to them that they can be held accountable for their violent crimes. Adult or not.
