More families now have two working parents. With both parents working, it is impossible to keep tabs on what their child is doing at all times. When working parents find out that their children are experimenting with drugs, it becomes a major problem not only at home, but at the office as well. The problem defined in the article is that many parents dealing with personal problems, such as their children using illegal substances, do not know how to cope with a problem of this magnitude, so they end up bringing their problems to the office with them. As a result of employees bringing their personal problems in to the office, the problem now becomes that of the employer. When employees bring their problems to the office, the employee may not perform well on the job, they tend to become less productive and they may make more mistakes than they normally would.
Employers are faced with the outcome from the problems employees bring in to the workplace. However, some employers feel that they should distance themselves from trouble spots that are not work related, as a way to avoid overstepping their boundaries (Brooks, 2002). Employers should not ignore the fact that the employees are bringing problems from home to the workplace. Employers should not disregard an employee's at-home problems because when the employee interacts at work with co-workers or customers the employee will appear to be stressed and the employee will also be less friendly causing other problems in the workplace, which is one issue related to the problem addressed in the article. The main issue related to the problem addressed in the article is the fact that since more families have both parents working it is impossible to know what their children are doing when the parents are away at work. When families have problems at home whether it is a drug-related issue or some other type of issue the parents will, in some way, bring his or her problems to the workplace. As a result of both parents working and dealing with at-home problems, the problems are brought to not only one business, but the problem is brought to two businesses.
The article implies that employees should take advantage of the At Work
