Persuasive: Same Sex Marriage Should be Legal
We should line up all the homosexual people in the United States and lock them in little cages. Do any of you agree with that? I didn't think so. Well that's how America treats them. Same Sex Marriage should be legal in ALL 50 states of America, not just 9 and only recognition in 4. Same Sex marriage should be legal because to not allow it would be violating constitutional rights, homosexuals contribute to society and Freedom of Choice.
By not allowing Same Sex marriage, we are violating people's constitutional rights. According to The Fourteenth Amendment: Section 1:
"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
That along with the Equal Protection Clause is basically securing United States' commitment to "All Men Are Created Equal. However, if this is so, why is it that Same Sex Marriage is banned in about 95.5% of the United States? The only states that leally allow Same Sex Marriage are Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, Maine New Jersey, New Hampshire, New Mexico and Rhode Island. And, only recognizing the rights of same sex couple but banning same sex marriage are Washington, Oregon, Washington D.C., and New York. Not only is this unconstitutional, but it just plain wrong.
Second, despite the myths and misconceptions about homosexuals, they highly contribute to our society. Even if we are unaware of it, some of our politicians, lawmakers, and even some of our beloved entertainers have been found to being some form of homosexual. Not only that, but there are many homosexual citizens who donate large amounts of money, create/participate in charities, and do volunteer work for programs the help make this a better world. According to balancedpolitics.org, same sex parents are usually more involved in their children's education, have more well adjusted children and are active in Parent Teacher Associations.
Finally, whatever happened to Freedom of Choice? There is another misconception about homosexuals that they choose to be homosexual. There have been studies that prove this isn't the case. There have been many studies that have shown that being homosexual is part of that person's core identity.
