Program Description
The Ministry of Justice has been the long standing partner of the Equal Access to Justice Project and a member of the Project Board from its inception. Given its role as the focal point for justice sector stakeholders and its mandate to oversee justice sector institutions, the MOJ has played an influential role in shaping the project's strategy and implementation.
In particular, the Project will support the MOJ in fulfilling its mandate to support the betterment of justice sector stakeholders and improving access to justice for the society at large. This will be achieved by enhancing capacity of Court Houses, Judges Training Institute, Quazi Courts, Mediation Boards, Judges and Non-Judicial Staff.
The current MoU will build on the work conducted by the MOJ under the project. This includes support to map out the judicial boundaries, procurement to refurbish court houses in the North and East, training for more than 1500 mediation board members, the development and distribution of an E-Law and the provision of equipment to the Non-judicial Training Centre.
The main objective of this agreement is to support justice sector infrastructure in the North and East and build the capacity of justice sector duty bearers such as judges, court staff, mediators and Quazis. This will be achieved by three related agreements that will cover the following areas:
1. Justice Sector Infrastructure Support
2. Capacity Building of Justice Sector Duty Bearers
3. Support Alternative Redress Mechanisms
