American Revolution

The colonist became rebellious towards Great Britain mainly because of their selfish wants. After the French-Indian war the colonists had it in their minds that they would be gaining this land for themselves but received nothing, the colonists wanted to have the ability to have free trade with other countries other than Great Britain, and the Colonies wanted to be tax free from the British and be able to have their own economy. All of these ideas led to the uprising and the rebellious mood that was spread differently throughout the colonies.

During the French-Indian War, the colonists fought because they thought that since they would be helping the British fight against the French the British would reward them. After the war the colonists waited like a child wanting for candy for the British to hand them the land known as the Ohio Valley for their valiant fighting. The British slapped the Proclamation of 1763 onto the colonists because they wanted to prevent further discrepancies with the Native Americans and keep peace in the 13 colonies. Colonists took this document and completely blew the whole thing up. They took it as a slap in the face because they had fought so hard and wanted it as a reward. Many of the colonists were so blinded by their anger and selfishness that they didn't see the peace that Britain was trying to keep. The land that was kept from them and eventually given to Quebec in the Quebec act was one of the main reasons for the Colonist's passionate feelings for independence.

Aside from the farming that was going on in the colonies, their main way for them to make financial gain was from the manufacturing business but more importantly was the international trade. The British had put numerous acts upon the colonies relating to the trading because the British desired many of the products coming from them. Mainly the Navigation Acts were the ones that angered the colonies the most. They had stated that the colonies had to bring their exports to Britain so that they could have their share then have them shipped off to wherever the original destination would have been. Merchants and other colonists that were angered by this were being overdramatic about it and weren't looking at it in the big picture. The big picture here was that they were still making money while the British were getting the resources that their colonies were producing. The international trade was beneficial to the colonies but was not entirely necessary to prosper.

In the mind of a colonist, there was this mindset that being separated from England would let them prosper and build as their own nation. For the most part this was true. The acts and proclamations made previous to the Revolution show what was going through the minds of both Britain and its colonists.
