I found the Return of Martin Guerre very interesting. After reading this book I believe in the thought of things never change. They just change in the manor that they are presented. In the book Martin and Bertrande got married. The marriage was arranged by their families and settled with a dowry. I believe in love at first site but to arrange love is another story. Martins issues with fighting with his father, not wanting to farm, disliked working, and believing that he was under a spell made me believe that he could not be a family man and the marriage would not last. Regardless of these first person accounts he was widely accepted to be Martin and who knew better if this was the real Martin than his wife. After numerous inquiries about how sure she was that this man was the real Martin there was evermore dou
