Executive Summary
This report provides information on “how fuel is accounted for in the Jojobera plant located at Jamshedpur, East Singhbum district”. Tata Power Jojobera plant is a thermal power plant i.e. it burns coal and oil to produce electricity. Coal is the primary fuel and light diesel oil (LDO) being the secondary fuel and used in case of non-availability of coal. It has an installed capacity of 667.5 MV (1* 67.5 MV; 5* 120 MV).
The primary role of Tata Power Jojobera Plant is to make available electricity to Tata Iron and Steel Company (TISCO) which is also located in Jamshedpur. Tata Power is solely responsible for uninterrupted supply of electricity to TISCO at affordable rates. The companies have a Power Purchasing Agreement (PPA) for 2 units, 2 are regulated by JSERC and the other 2 are owned by IEL a separate company where Tata Power is the holding company.
The report will deal with only 4 units i.e. Units 1, 2, 3 & 4 that are under direct control of Tata Power.
The report has been divided into 4 chapters. The first chapter gives a brief introduction of the company and a summary of the generation units inside the plant premises. The second chapter discusses the objective and scope of the study and the methodology used. The third chapter deals with the fuel cycle of coal and is the most important chapter. This chapter is further divided into 3 parts sourcing, consumption and disposal.
The fourth chapter of the report includes suggestions to improve the efficiency of the plant by trying to reduce the fuel usage based on the observations and findings of the report.
