Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo do Vinci was one of the best scientists during the Renaissance. He was also a fantastic artist during his lifetime, and throughout history. Leonardo dissected corpses to figure out things about the human anatomy. He also studied fossils to learn more about past history in the Earth. Leonardo was also a very good inventor and engineer. He came up with ideas that were way ahead of his lifetime, and some of those are used to this day.

Italy City States

City-states were cities considered small, or bigger that ruled their own way and had their own rules. One of the main reasons Italy did not unite into one kingdom, was because people were afraid that if one city-state gained enough power it would be able to take over the rest of them, and not leave them individual. They also thought it would lead to them taking over each other's churches and not let them believe what they wanted to.

Humanism

Humanism is mainly based on the Ancient Greeks and Romans. Humanists believe that human society and individual beliefs were important. Humanism was not a way to push religion out of the picture, it was just a new way of thinking; People believed that religion was still big, but being an individual was also something that should start. They thought there should be a balance between the way people lived, and that you didn't have to do so many things just to be able to go to Heaven.

95 Theses

Martin Luther wrote the 95 Theses as a way to push things away. It was 95 reasons why he didn't like the church, and how they handled their problems and their way of what they did. The main focus was on how the church sold indulgences for money for themselves, and how faith is bigger than sacraments to gain salvation.

Diet of Worms

The Diet of Worms was a meeting for Martin Luther to have the Pope and the Emperor to push him to recant for what he said and believed about the church. They told him if he didn't they would have to deal with him a different way, as in being burned at the stake. When he didn't he had to hide out and make sure he wasn't found for a couple of years.

Printing Press

The printing press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg and spread many ideas throughout Europe. The printing press was a tool that used a moveable metal piece to write things. Using the printing press made it easier to copy book and it also make it easier to read other peoples books. It opened up doors to let people read what other people believed and how they thought.

Indulgences

An indulgence was the Church's ticket to let go of a sin. After a while during the 1500's
