Reaction to “Thirty-Eight Who Saw Murder Didn’t Call the Police”
After reading the article, my reaction is that I feel similar things still happen today. Kitty was just a regular woman, who was just coming home from work, when she was murdered. I was personally disgusted that no one called the police until it was too late. How is it that in a world full of voice, nobody wanted to be the voice that night? Had someone just called the police, the young woman may have lived. Not one person wanted to intervene.
Today people still have the same thought. They feel that if they don’t say anything they don’t have to be involved. All of those neighbors who heard the yelling, but didn’t react. The murder was able to attack Kitty 3 different times. People tend to be attentive to all sorts of things. However, when it’s something major going on most people just want to “mind their business” or “not get involved”. Most people want to be seen and not heard. They have jobs and families and lives to maintain. This is understandable, but what if it was one of their family members? They would expect someone to be involved.
When it includes your own family you, want someone to make a phone call to the police, or to help in any way. Kitty was in a place where her neighbors became her eyes but no one helped her. This is an ongoing issue. Most people want to see the incident, but doesn’t want to report it or make a call to the police, which could possibly save a life.
