If you are an African American in the United States at this point in time, you will have a stigma placed upon you. Certain people will only see African Americans one way and one way only. African Americans are often labeled as the inferior race when it comes to other races. It's like they have to work harder than most to obtain what they want. African Americans are not as accepted as they should be in today's society, but it has improved quite a bit.

Barack Obama was elected as the 44th president of the United States. Even though he is not fully African American because he's mixed, Americans still decided they wanted him to run our country. I think it was a really great decision. I believe he is one the best presidents we have had so far not just because of his ethnicity. Our role in the society today is to basically uphold the African American name and show other people who think of us as inferior to them just because of our skin color are completely wrong.

African Americans are not as "apart" of today's society as they should be. There are not as many of us in the government, there has been only one black U.S. president so far, and Caucasians just outnumber us when it comes to who is in control of our country. I believe there should be a lot more African Americans running for government-related positions if they already are not. I believe we as African Americans should strive to make the most out of what we have to offer to our country.

Based off of my prior knowledge, I believe there are far more African American dropouts than any other race. Fewer African Americans also strive for a higher education after graduating from high school. A lot of it has to do with what goes on inside of their homes. Usually if their parents did not go to college, they will choose to do the same.

Many famous African American people have a large influence on the vast majority of African Americans today. Everyone watches TV or listens to the radio at some point in their lives. We watch these TV shows or hear these songs by people of our own kind and it's like we can relate to whatever message they are trying to send out. Most of these famous people are people that a lot of African Americans choose to look up to, so they should be careful about the things they do or the things they say.

When it comes to crime, African Americans also rank number one. I believe there are far more African Americans in jail today than there are any other type of race. I could turn on my TV, look at the news, and the first I would usually notice is something about an African American citizen attacking another person. It saddens me to say the least because I know we are better than that, but some African Americans just choose to give us a bad name. For future African Americans, I don't really see much changing except we will become more involved in government-related issues.
