A racial group is a group that is set apart from others because of physical differences that have taken on social significance.
People may think race doesn't matter anymore because racial discrimination isn't shown as publicly in such large groups as it was in the past. In the past, it was clear through slavery that African Americans were discriminated against. A large number of them were slaves and everyone knew this. However today, the discrimination is felt more commonly by one individual as he or she is applying for a job, applying for college, or trying to use a credit card. If we aren't part of that racial group always being questioned, we don't notice the certain individuals that are and therefore it doesn't affect us and we don't even realize the issue.
If we no longer kept track of different racial groups we would be viewed as one group, one society. However, a negative would be that we would turn into a homogenious society. The different races wouldn't display their different culutures, norms, or values. However, a positive would be that there would not be discrimination. Colleges and universities wouldn't care what race you were, employement agencies wouldn't look at what race you were, and banks wouldn't look at what race you were. Simply, you would be a citizen of America and that's it.
