The ownership and management of the mule, can be a challenge for an unseasoned equine keeper.
Mules come in all shapes and sizes, and colors, but the most memorable thing about any mule you will ever meet will be his attitude. When they talk about Missouri mules, they are talking about their attitude.
Never will you meet an animal more stubborn than a mule. If a mule deceides he is not going to go, he is not going to go! No matter what type of coaxing or conjuling you do, you will not get a mule to budge, if hes set his mind to the fact.
Mules have been "beast of burden," since before the keeping of records in time. They have been used for everything from farming to coal mining. (130) Mules are used for back packing in the mountains of Colorado, and are as surefooted and comfortable on the trails in the mountains as walking across a pasture eating grass. A mule can do anything a horse can do, only better. (171)
Mules are used for coon hunting, and are the best at jumping fences and logs and finding their way in the dark. Its like they have a sixth sense on finding their way through the woods at night.
Mules are now also used for dressage and jumping in shows. They can be taught to trot, gallop, and sidestep to the best of show, they are natural born winners. (239)
So if ever your in need of a long relaxing trail ride, and a comfortable ride along the way. Get yourself a big ole black jack or red molly mule and a well used saddle and "rock" the ride away on the back of the best friend you,ll ever have, ecept for maybe your dog.
