In today's society pregnant teenagers are more and more accepted every day. There is even a television show that shows us how accepted society is with a pregnant teenager. I personally have been the unmarried pregnant teenager and I wish during my time there was more of program for pregnant teenagers but I personally had a great support system through my parents.
In today's society when you see a pregnant teenager it seems to be normal I do not think it should be this way because teen pregnancy is a huge problem in our society today. There is a huge negative impact that teen pregnancy has on society. It causes an increase in public assistance payments, health care, foster care, and so much more. Teen pregnancy costs tax payers between $11 and $28 billion a year because of public assistances, health care, and also foster care. Not only does it affect society as a whole but also the teen, their parents, their siblings, and their friends. Nothing will ever be the same and it is likely that the teen will not graduate high school on time or at all.
During my time as a teen parent I graduated later then my classmates and struggled to get a job and provide for my daughter. Fourteen years later I am in the military my daughter is off the high school this year and as I look back on all the hard times I had and the issues my one bad mistake had on everyone else around me, it makes me want something more for my daughter to be better and do better. She has made me stronger through it all but I would never want her to go through the things I went through.
I believe that in order to keep the teen pregnancy rate down we need to educate our teens on the risks and responsibilities of being a teen parent. No matter what the circumstances we as parent will be there to talk to them with any questions they may have and help them through anything they may need help with.
