Poison
(Track: Ghost Town by Adam Lambert)
There were gunshots, loud and pounding in Marlon' ears.
The room they are contained in was safe.
For now.
It's 2035 and zombies are wandering and striving to rule over the Earth.
Yup, you read it right.
Almost 20 years ago, a vaccine was created specifically for the substitution of euthanasia. The goal of the drug was to numb the patient's body in a comatose-like state for a full 24 hours; after that, the drug gets filtered out by the liver, and within a few hours, the patient wakes up. No side effects were found in the patients that were injected with the drug. This was considered the Miracle of The Century, and probably the greatest innovation in the history of medicine.
Months after its discovery through the media, hospitals all over the world circulated and distributed this drug. And in those few months, a suicidal teen diagnosed with severe depression had gotten his hands on The Miracle and took a high dose of this and was in a coma for a week. But the minute he woke up, he said that he doesn't remember why he had wanted to kill himself in the first place. And just like that, The Miracle had struck another popular issue, and the news had spread throughout the United States. In 14 months, the drug was revised. No more coma.
This drug had been given to patients internationally; it was recommended and given to people with depression, anxiety, and other psychological and emotional disorders such as these that accepted it.
Anyone who took it only had to take it once and all symptoms would disappear. This is why there were no cases of addiction.
Six years after the first ten people were tested with the drug, the same ten had been hospitalized with medical records showing that their hearts had slowed down its beating, and their lifeline was flat. And yet...
An hour after each of the ten had died, their eyes were devoid of any color (or so the witnesses had said. Their eyes were white so that basically means they reflected all the fucking colors at once), and their skin was sickly pale.
It was said that they had physically attacked all the staff in the hospital, killed them, and ate their flesh as if they craved for it.
Turns out that the drug was actually not filtered and flushed out of their system, but dissolved, and becoming one with the blood itself.
Governments and hospitals all over the world had banned the drug, and everyone who took it were contained in heavily guarded medical facilities. But it was no use.
You see the drug had been circulating for a long time, and mixing itself with new blood. Just as the body was renewing, it struck the hardest. The body weakens, and the contamination is stronger, overpowering. The body it consumes like a parasite dies, but becomes stronger. Almost to a point no mortal can beat.
Humanity had played god, and 20 years later, they're paying the price.

"Are you sure this will work?" Marlon asked Junkey, one of the remaining survivors that knew how to work their way with chemicals.
"Of course it will. The question is, are you ready? This is, afterall, a suicide mission," Junkey responded.
Marlon looked over to Carlo, the unrequited love of his life, who was comforting Fernan, who had just received the news that the man he officially married 10 days ago was dead, after retrieving a family of 5 to their underground hideout.
Rowbell had died the same way Marlon was going to die today.
It was time to say goodbye.
Norlito, their weapon designer and engineer gave Marlon and Carlo the armor, machines, and ammo that they needed while his wife packed supplies in their bag just in case they got trapped in the area they were going to rescue a family of 4. Marlon greatly admired Norlito for taking care of his family and sticking by their rescue team.
He was like the father Marlon had lost a long time ago.
As they exited, the people in their hideout hugged them, as if that was the last time they were going to see them. For Marlon, it was, which was why this time he actually let them hug him.
When Fernan hugged Marlon, he gripped his shirt tight and cried a few tears as he whispered, "Norlito told me your mission. Do me a favor and just tell Carlo how you feel."
And that was that.
Now, he and Carlo were stuck in the two-storey house that contained the family they were meant to rescue. There were at least half a hundred more zombies out there hungry for their flesh, and trying to break down their barricade of furniture against the door.
Marlon and Carlo stood
