Personality Reflection

Personality psychology is the scientific study of the psychological forces that make people uniquely themselves. Eight key aspects define personality determining the nature of an individual. There are key features and concepts to determine an individual's personality. To help better understand an individual, a personality test is taken; one should be sure that the test is reliable and valid.

Individuals are affected by eight aspects of personality including unconscious aspects, ego forces, and biological being. Conditioned and shaped by experiences and environments around them, Individuals and their culture are a key aspect to whom we are as a person. Cognitive dimension allows a person to interpret the world around him or her and also surrounded with a collection of traits, skills, and predispositions. Spiritual dimensions allow one to ponder the meaning of their existence, and ongoing interaction between a person and a particular environment are an addition to defining one's personality (Friedman & Schustack, 2009).

Personality psychologists attempt to use scientific inference to test theories. In some cases, correlation coefficient is an option because some scientists believe that rigorous studies of personality must become mathematical and involve numbers. Friedman and Schustack (2009) stated that "Sigmund Freud reveals the extent of the conflict s and urges hidden within a person" (Chapter one, University of Phoenix p. 5). According to the laws and principles of personality deductive approach occurs when there is a "top down" process of reasoning from generalizations to instances, whereas, the inductive approach takes a " bottom up" manner and researchers work from general knowledge and empirical observations. This approach allows an individual to beware of any single study that claims to be definitive about human nature (Friedman & Schustack, 2009). My personality features that define me may include perspectives with key strengths involving good individual assessment techniques, called trait. Another key strength understands that we are different selves in different situations known as interactionist, in addition to, appreciating the spiritual nature of a person known as humanistic/existential (Friedman & Schustack, 2009). Many concepts are used to explain our personality.

Personality is a useful concept, in fact, some examples of personality in context are Authoritative Personality where a person has antidemocratic tendencies. A person with this concept tends to be narrow minded, rigid, defensive, in addition to, showing prejudice against a minority group. For example, the Nazis are classified as authoritative personality (Friedman & Schustack, 2009). Another useful concept in personality is the Barnum effect, in which, a person has the tendency to believe in the accuracy of vague generalities
