Personal Essay

When test results come back they tell you, you are above average, average or below average. According to my mother, I am just average. Being just average has become something I have accepted of myself. To me average describes someone who is willing to work hard and allow themselves to be impacted by people and experiences with which they surround themselves. When impacted by different people and experiences, one comes to know who they are and what they enjoy.

My parents never pushed me to do anything that I didn't have a desire to do. I am grateful I was never pushed to accomplish anything for my parents because it has allowed me to accomplish more than one thing. When I was little I played basketball, softball, soccer and danced. I loved to dance; I would dance all the time and I loved it. I eventually grew out of going to dance classes all the time. I wanted something new. When I entered high school I dedicated my time, energy and courage to learn how to dive. I made it to regionals my freshman year and took some lessons at ASU my sophomore year. During my sophomore year I was also involved in the dance program. I learned how to Salsa, something that I never thought I could do, but I was actually pretty good at it, I even had a lift in our routine. I love learning how to do new things and I love getting to know the different people and different personalities that come with them as I am learning.

The classes allowed a new perspective into my life. I found out the world is made up of tiny little organisms which all come together to make a large mass of something great. I had the opportunity to go to Catalina Island with my fellow AP biology classmates. Our guide, Kyle, told us all about plankton; how they grow, what the different species look like and how they work together. To some people plankton would seem boring and un-useful, but to me, I thought it was the greatest thing to know about something living but yet so small. The plankton in the ocean is just a speck if you look at the ecosystem as a whole, but without it, the life cycle wouldn't function. There are millions of people in the world but without their different beliefs and ideas the world wouldn't be as God intended it to be. Full of variety, for humanity to gain knowledge.

I believe that everyone deserves a chance or an opportunity to share their life with others. Everyone is worth something and has something to share. Being just average has allowed me to see the lives of those that are above average and those that are below average. Those that are considered average just need to know and find out for themselves what I found. I found that you don't necessarily have to be the greatest at something for it to make an impact on your
