HOW DO I COPE

Time flies, I have been in the U.S. for about three months. This is my first time to left my hometown such far.  In this tough period, I have come through a lot of troubles, both physical and psychological.

First of all, I have some problems with my eating conditions and styles. I used to eat a lot of Chinese-style food which needed to be cooked with a great amount of oil. However, that method would produce so much smoke that the smoke inspector in my apartment would ring for alert sometimes. That alert sound was not only annoying but also made my neighbors panic for that. To solve that problem, I mostly use another clean method to cook my food and I learned to cook American-style food as well. At the meantime, I opened the window to let the smoke come out through it. Therefore, this problem was finally settled.

What’ s more, I have a hard time to deal with my jet lag. There is a time difference about 12 hours between China and Syracuse, almost turning night into day. What I did to solve that problem was to eat at proper time to let my body get used to the timeline here. And forced myself to sleep was another good option. Sometimes it was difficult to fell asleep when I felt terrible about my thinking. Then I would do some yoga, drunk a cup of hot milk and listened to some comfortable music.

Last but not the least, I always feel lonely after I arrived in the U.S. I left my familiar friends, my loving family. It is always hard for me to change into a brand new place. Thus, I forced myself to meet some new friends and tried hard to adapt to the environment. What was really important was that I love nature scenes a lot. The fresh air and great environment comforted me a lot at first. Sometimes I felt homesick then I would give a video chat to my families.

All in all, trouble come up sometimes but the ability to solve the problems appropriately matters. I believe I will have a great life here in America.
