What is a name? Everyone has a name. It is given to you at birth by your guardians. You have no say in what you want it to be, and what if you don't like it? Too bad! There's not much you can do about it. It is what you will always be known as. It gives you a sense of originality. Despite that your name is yours. It will always be with you wherever you go, whatever you do. If in life you make some bad decisions, your name will always be known for that mistake. If you do something great, it will also stay with you and that accomplishment. It's the one thing that will never leave you. No matter what you do.
In our lives we have certain people that inherit names with things that happen in their lives. When you have a child you are from that moment on a mother or a father. The names you are given are not to be disrespected. They are given to you as an everyday reminder that you have someone else in your life to care for besides yourself. Becoming a mother also comes with a stereotype of what you as a mom are expected to do and how you are expected to act. A mother is caring, compassionate, loving, trusting, respectful, and one of a kind. I know my mother is like no other. She is my hero. She has never done anything like fly a spacecraft or discover a cure for cancer. She is just a normal woman with big dreams, and she will always be my mother. A father is a protector, a provider, and a mentor. He's a pillar of strength, support and discipline. His work is endless and, oftentimes thankless. But in the end, it shows in the sound, well-adjusted children he raises. And he will always be a hero to his children. Names like brother and sister, aunt and uncle, cousin or friend are also given to people as times and people progress in their lives. They also will forever be known for these names. There are also names that have different meanings to different people. Like grandma and grandpa, or nana and papa.
They are the same actual meanings but they are just the names we choose to give these people in their lives.
I will never forget when one of my substitute teachers told my class that one day he wants to be known as "coach." To him this was an accomplishment. Being "coach" has so many meanings behind it. You are a support system, and a mentor in these people's lives. It means so much more then we realize. Coach is a name that will only be given to those who deserve it. These men and women take the time to get to know the people surrounding them, and respect them for who they are. Coach is not just a name given to you by your players. It is the name you will carry on for most of your life. You will be known as coach to not only your players, throughout your years of coaching them but also to their family, and friends. Coach will become you name even to your colleagues, family, friends, fans and even your enemy's.
