As I finished my mock exam, I feel a great sense of concern. I believe nationals is the most important hurdle I need to overcome in order to become a license practical nurse. By doing these exams, I learned a great deal of things about the areas I did not do well. It did not surprise me at all that my Critical Thinking area was very poor. Critical Thinking is one of my worst subject. I must think like a nurse or how will the nurse act in a situation in order for me to improve this area. I must stop thinking what I would have done or what I believe should happen and instead focus on how a professional nurse would respond to a given situation. I also lack in the area of Application. I must apply the knowledge that I learn to my skills. For example, signs and symptoms of a diabetic. By knowing the signs and symptoms, I can immediately sense any differences and help the client cope and understand his or her situation. I believe that the application of knowledge is important as this measure what I have learned and what to do with what I learned. I believe that my knowledge still has a long way to go. I still keep on forgetting what I have learned and its just frustrating. An example would be a Crohn's disease. It is one of the questions in the mock exam and I was just racking my brains out trying to remember the disease. I believe that I need to familiarize myself more with diseases. My plan is to make flash cards about diseases that we learned, including their signs and symptoms, nursing diagnosis, treatment, health promotion, diet and activity. By putting them in a little flash cards, I can take them with me wherever I go and study them. I need to work on my Professional, Ethical, and Legal Practice. I need to be able to free my mind with assumptions and concentrate on the client. I must be able to show professional behavior like how to respond with the clients with mental illness. I must also know how to assess client's feelings by listening. Furthermore, I must use my nursing judgment for any decision makings. I have a lot of work to do with my Foundations of Practice. My planning and implementation was very disappointing as I looked at how many incorrect answers I had in these area. I must further study how to respond to situations that might affect my clients. I must also use evidence-based knowledge to help make a nursing intervention to help my clients. I plan to use knowledge while dealing with clients. I need to work on making a plan of care to understand the conditions that my client have. I must improve my Collaborative Practice by studying how to effectively teach, implement, guide and assess any care interventions.
