Parents and society
Parents bear great responsibility to take a good care of children. Since the children tend to learn easily by observing the things that are happening in their community or go along with the community to fit in, it is very important for both parents to choose a good community to raise their children and the community to help protecting the children from learning bad behaviors. I believe that both private and public responsibility for children is equally important for a child to grow up proper way with good personality, behaviors and career.
I have seen many kids who have no respect to elders nowadays, and this might because they have seen many people do the same thing either in their family or in their community. Whenever I think about the relationship between the children's behaviors and community, my memories play back a story that my father told me when I was young. Once upon a time, there was a parrot family, father, mother, and two baby parrots, John and Jerry, which lived on the big tree in the forest. One terrible night, the thunderstorm separated the family and the storm took John to the temple and Jerry to the robbers' village.
A few months later, the King and his followers went to the forest for hunting. When they passed by the robbers' village, Jerry shouted, "Hey, people, I see rich guys are coming this way, take your weapon and prepare to attack." Then the robbers came out and attack them. The King and few of his followers were separated with the group from running away and they arrived to the temple. When John saw them, he politely greeted, "Oh, dear guests, you all look exhausted, come and take a rest in the shades for a while, and there is cool water available over here, help yourself." The King and his followers were surprised to see two parrots with different behaviors.
Even though the two parrots were from the same family, the one lived in the good community grew up with good behaviors and the one lived in the bad community grew up with bad behaviors. That story shows that after parents, the community has greatest responsibility for children. As Clinton stated in her essay, everything is improving very fast nowadays and with internet and new technologies, the community becomes bigger for children. Now, children can learn almost everything, both good and bad behaviors, within a minute on the internet. It is very important to guide the children to the right direction and support them to grow up with good personalities. Not only parents, but also communities have greatest responsibility to carry this task.
