The main character of this movie is Oscar Romero who was killed twenty-five years ago. He lives on El Salvador, Latin America and sometimes in United States. Romero is an archbishop of El Salvador who has help people of El Salvador. People of El Salvador are poor and they have been taken all their privilege. On March 24,1980 Oscar Romero told his reporter "If they kill me, I shall arise in the Salvadoran people. If the threats come to be fulfilled, from this moment I offer my blood to God for the redemption and resurrection of El Salvador. Let my blood be a seed of freedom and the sign that hope will soon be reality."
In our text book ,the prophet's message is usually aimed against "complacency toward oppression of the poor, corruption in courts and the marketplace, infidelity to relationships, or abandonment of the marginalized in society' (Mueller, 236). El Salvador good people saw Romero as light. Most of the people didn't see him as good guy. Romero was a prophet in many ways, which helped Salvadoran people. He helped his colleagues, El Salvador people to understand the problems of the country.
The first prejudice he was trying to unmask is that as a Christian to protect against personal sin. Another prejudice was to keep Catholic leadership with the government who didn't believe in god and were communist regimes of Europe and Asia, which were bad side of cold war. Romero work hard on human rights and justice, not as communist leader.
Mentanoia is to experience a change. Romero has become a prophet and a disciple which is an example of mentanoia. He worked to release from the bad guys of the Salvadoran government. Romero experience has lot of changes on different levels. The government was threating people, the people was badly beaten, may people in the country died. While Romero started communicating with the people, he started believed that the government was dealing with violence. The government was not interested in peoples benefit. Being as a Christian he thought he should stop the violence that was happening in the country and fight against injustice.
Romero was influenced by the people of the country and god. He slowly started to change from what he saw the violence, which was occurring in the country, his feeling towards the people, people's prayers and his theological research and studies.
The choice that he makes to show that he loves God was that he stands at beginning of the movie fighting for justice for the people. He is speaking against the violence that the government has been doing. He put himself at risk stopping the violence and fighting for justice. The choice which he made was dangerous because the government dislike what he was doing . Romero was speaking against the government which initially led him to death .
A church is where people pray to god . It is an institution within El Salvador because it is a very pervasive
