Organizational Behavior
Six problems choose three
Introduction
Problem 2:
This is case where a manufacturing company is facing a high turnover. High turn over is a clear indicative of the employee dissatisfaction in an organization. Every manger should keep in mind that the organizations are complex social systems and they adapt and cope in order to survive. Successful adaptations take place when there is an effective exchange between the company and the environment. The company can be successful only when the value of the company's output like the employee and shareholder satisfaction exceeds the costs of the inputs that are required to produce these outputs. Organizational culture creates a cordial atmosphere in the firm and provides job satisfaction to the employee. There fore creating a good organizational culture resolves many issues and the employees develop an emotional attachment with the firm even if they face issues like inferior equipments like in this case. Thus creation of a good organizational culture can stop the problem of high turnover to a considerable extent. The case mentioned here clearly shows that the company does not have a good organizational culture and the supervisors ill treat their subordinates. The workers cannot put forward their suggestions as the supervisors are overbearing. Thus the organization needs to create a more democratic culture in it.
Power and Authority are the variables which can make or break an organization. Power and authority can lead to negative politics in the organizations. If the power and authority are not defined properly in the organization it can turn make the mangers to engage in a wrong display of power. Power and authority is an issue that seems to have affected this organization in a negative way. The role of the leader is not to just command the subordinates but to guide them through the difficult situations. A leader should not only be able to command obedience from people by his authority but also should be able to get respect from them by his actions. In this case we see that one reason given by an employee of the organization cites arrogant and over demanding supervisors and absence of the owner from the manufacturing plant reasons for high turnover. This clearly indicates that neither the owner nor the supervisors have played the right leading role required to be played by a manager as a leader in the organization. There fore the owner of the firm needs to bring a change in this attitude of him and the supervisors and develop effective leadership by conducting various leadership programs.
