FINAL PAPER 2
The five essential functions of planning, leading, organizing, staffing and controlling plays an essential role in my everyday job functions.
Management defines objectives and assesses both the internal and external situations to formulate strategy, implement the strategy, evaluate the progress and make adjustments as necessary to stay on track. Working in a hurricane catastrophe unit is a revolving day-to-day operation. It takes intense planning to run such an operation and/or organization.
There are key elements to the planning process such as the mission and objectives. The mission and objectives describes how the company business vision, values, and purpose of the firm visionary goals. The planning process also include Environmental Scan, this is a process that can help management identify the firms strengths and weakness within the company.
Understanding the firm's strengths can develop or provide a good reputation among customers in such a demanding industry. Throughout the organization, customer service is to be held with the utmost respect or as the saying goes "treat people like you would want to be treated." In my department leadership starts with a director of claims, followed by a manager, team leads/supervisors and lastly employees.
Leadership requires a great deal of planning, directing, and motivating staff. Although, the director of the Hartford is seldom in the office, one can only assume that he is working diligently behind the scenes to make sure that each of the five functions of management are being implemented.

The Hartford implements a team of people and resources to create products and services in an efficient and effective manner. In order to create a job designs, the primary challenge will be developing job descriptions that account for new tasks.
Many of these tasks will be associated with changes in technology, for instance, when customers ask for a referral for their home repairs or replacement, instead of providing the customer with the name and telephone number of the referral, (referral program) we take the approach to call the referral company to discuss the repair(s) process under the Hartford's guidelines.
Any information discussed with the referral company would be relayed back to the customer(s). It is totally up to each customer to decide if the referral is a good fit, if not a reputable license contractor is recommended.
Staffing also plays an important role in the staffing process. On occasions, the Hartford will seek partner with highly qualified contingency and retained search firms and recruitment agencies to assist in staffing needs and identify top talent within the marketplace. To achieve this, the Hartford has created a Staffing Management Program.
