For the assignment, you are required to select a real-world event or an experience from your own life and explain it using a concept from class (for instance, psychological contracts, importance of organizations to employee self-concept). The requirements for the "real-world event" or "personal experience" that you select are very flexible. Feel free to discuss a current event or something that happened in your own life. You may select something that occurred in the business world, sports, television, etc. The key is to make sure that the event/experience or movie scene and the OB concept you select are related in a meaningful way.
You are expected to accomplish three objectives in the assignment, so it is strongly suggested that you devote one paragraph to each objective.
Three Objectives:
1) Describe the event/experience/scene - Explain what happened and its significance.
briefly. Try to include only relevant details that are important for understanding the
event. For instance, you may have worked for a supervisor who was unconcerned with
employee attitudes and did little to help employees do their jobs. Explain what the
boss did (or didn't) do and what impact it had on you and your co-workers.
2) Explain the OB concept you selected - After introducing your event/
experience in the previous paragraph, define and briefly explain your concept in this
paragraph. Then explain how it applies to event/experience you described previously.
For example, define job satisfaction and briefly recount its antecedents, consequences,
and/or how employees react to it. Explain why you feel that your boss's actions would
have an impact on the job satisfaction of you and your coworkers.
3. Critique - How well does the concept explain the event/experience/scene described?
Do we understand the event/experience any better when we explain it in terms of the
OB concept? If yes, how is an understanding of this concept valuable? If no, what are
its limitations? What could be added to the concept to give it more explanatory
power? Returning to the previous example, perhaps you and your coworkers quit
your jobs due to low job satisfaction. What
