Optimism

Optimism is a philosophical belief that everything that is happening around us, regardless of the conditions, is at its optimum, meaning that whatever happens, there is always a positive side to it. The belief develops by stating the world is moving on its way to an optimum condition or state. Everything that ever happened or is going to happen will be at its optimum. There are many examples for optimism and apart from the classic example of half a glass of water, there are others like, "when one door closes, another opens" or "every cloud has its own silver lining".

Philosophers and scientists have been trying to test the degree and authenticity of optimism for many time now. Some disagree but former believe that there is, regardless of its magnitude, some part in every human being that believes in optimism. Many experiments and tests have been conducted in order to prove it, for example, several statements or reasons for a certain event will be put together in front of a group of people, with the same number of positive and negative statements. Each person will be instructed to pick one and results will be recorded. Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz used optimistic approach towards the theory of creation of universe by stating that it existed because it was the best among its alternatives, which Voltaire mocked badly in his book Candide. However doctors now believe that optimism speeds the recovery due to the psychological effect. Researches also have taken place that showed that optimists even become more immune to certain diseases.

My personal philosophy revolves around optimism. Many quotes from famous philosophers and scientists inspire me to believe that even though events take place that shake me to my core but there is always some good prospect about them. An example would be the death of my paternal grandmother. I was shocked and grieved a lot but if I look at the silver lining, I would say that it made my paternal family together and closer. It doesn't mean that somebody has to die to make families closer but when somebody dies it brings his relatives closer. Everyday has positive side it for example, I may be late for my class but I had more time to sleep. There are tons of these tiny examples which make me believe that optimism is the right belief for me to believe in.
