Major studio - Subject Purpose

This subject provides an opportunity for students to design and realise a significant

series or body of design work.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, learners will be able to:

1. Research and design a personal conceptual design brief

2. Document working process

3. Resolve design problems, through testing and experimentation

4. Professionally present, resolved, creative design solutions

5. Complete and present a series/body of works with a high degree of finish and

conceptual content

Observations

Note that this is a triple module (18 credits), taught over 2 terms. This was the

second and file term of the Major Studio Project module, and the end of the course

for this cohort.

Delivery, assessment and deliverable s followed the example format supplied by university

Moderation

Due to the small class size, all marks will be considered for moderation purposes.

Subject Purpose

This subject explores a range of subcultures and their transition historically into

mainstream culture through design.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, learners will be able to:

1. Research and analyse information and communicate this through writing

2. Understand the development of subculture and its antithesis to main-stream

culture

3. Analyse design mediums and their ability to transition subculture

4. Visually analyse and communicate connections between design forms across

time

5. Apply theories of culture to the construction of arguments and presentations

Third year students from Graphic Design and Multimedia Design took this module in

a shared class.
