After examine the website of Central library of Viet Nam National University – Ho Chi Minh City, I’ve got some functions and what the user needed when go to the library website.

1. Search function

• This function helps user can search for books or other products.

1. Basic search

• User can search the library for documents by enter keywords.
• The documents can be searched from(user’s choice):

• Central library.
• University of Technology library.
• University of Social Science & Humanities library.
• University of Economic & Law library.
• International University library.
• Institute of Environment & Resources library.
• All library above.

• Keywords that user enter can be searched by(user’s choice):

• Title
• Author
• Subject
• Publisher
• ISBN(book number)
• ISSN(serial number)
• Call number
• Any type above

• Keywords also have search limits, the user can select the result:

• That contained user’s keywords.
• With the exact keywords.
• Start with the keywords that the user entered.

• User can search from:

• Network catalogs.
• Databases.
• Institutional repository.

• Users can select the types of document so the searching can be faster:

• EBooks
• E-Journals
• Articles
• Theses & Dissertations
• Lectures
• Audio visual
• Images
• Maps
• All types of items

1. Advanced Search

• It is like the basic search, but user can perform a faster search by entering more information about the document that user want to search.

1. Result

• If the search was successful, all of possible results are displayed. For example, I search for the book names “Cuốn Theo Chiều Gió” from central library, then the site redirect to the catalog of central library and the result is shown in the image below.

1. User interface

• This site doesn’t have the register function. If you want to register, you need to go to the central library to register and get the library ID card and your user data.
• When you click on “My Account” in the home page, it will redirect to the site:

1. Login & View account information

• User need to enter Patron ID (User library ID) and password to access to account. Because I don’t have the Central Library ID so I can’t show if the login is successful and view my account information.

1. Search

• In this site, there are search functions:

• Quick Search: User enter the keywords which related to the document. It is the simplest way to search for document.

• Keyword Search: Allow user to search for a document using a combination of keywords with search operator. Using “AND”, “NOT” to limit the result or “OR”, “NEAR” to widen the result.

• Broad Search: Same to keyword search, these check boxes under are desired databases, which means user can search for document in the central library of other libraries that associate with. To search all databases, user can click on “check all”.

• Reserve search (for lecturer, department…)

• In some search types there is “Set Search Filters” function, users can specify their search with including or excluding button, and they can select the location to get the documents and enter the document’s publication date and context date:

• Result: For example I use the quick search and enter the keyword “Cuốn Theo Chiều Gió” from Central Library, then the site will display all possible documents that related to the keywords:
