When you pay rent you don't own anything but when you pay a mortgage
you increase your chance of ownership in your home with every payment which can take up
to thirty years. You can also deduct mortgage interest and property taxes and get a bigger
refund on your W2's, Uncle Sam doesn't give renters this bonus.
Renters on the other hand are free to go at the end of the lease which can be month to month
upwards of two years. If a renter loses a home, there's the option to get a cheaper rental until
things get better. When you own a home, even if your financial situation changes, you must
continue to pay the mortgage payment as agreed upon during closing.
There is no guarantee of a permanent home with homeownership. As we've seen with the
recession, should you lose your job and exhaust all your funds, you are out of luck and that
home will be either up for foreclosure or sold to the highest bidder.
There's a sense of pride, at least for most people, when owning a home.
You can remodel as much as you like but sometimes you might be restricted on what you can
do to the outside by the City or a Homeowner's Association, but for the most part you can do
with it what you like. Every time I see a neighbor getting any type of home improvement to
their house like getting new windows installed, adding a new roof or driveway, or just new
anything, I feel resentment that I can't have that same improvement done to my home.
My neighbor across the street always getting something done to his
house. Just recently I witnessed garage contractors is in the back of his alley building him a
brand new garage. Wow, how I wish I could have them come over and do the same for me.
The floor is all cracked up, the aluminum vinyl is falling off the sides and I am in desperate
need of a garage sell to get rid of all the junk that has accumulated thought-out the years.
Yes, I must admit, I do feel a since of jealousy when I saw him getting a new garage built and
mine looking old the way it does. I wonder sometimes how he gets the money to pay for
all the home improvements he has done in the past three years. When I jokingly ask him about
that subject he arrogantly say "I'm the man that's how" and instantly start bragging on what his
next project is going to be. I stood there with him by his house while the contractors are working
and looked across the street at my house and felt very upset. Why can't I have a concrete truck
pouring new concrete for my driveway or garage, what makes Steve so much better than me?
My bills are piling up to the ceiling; and I can barely pay my mortgage on time. I wish I could win
a large sum of money from the lottery, then I could get a lot of project done to my house.
I refuse to look out the window to see what's going on over there anymore when there are
trucks
