With Malaysia’s economic downturn, young generations are looking for jobs that pay better.
Background of the entrepreneur
Mr. Ghazali bin Che Omar comes from Kampung Losong, Kuala Terengganu and had been living in Pahang since 1978. He has been introduced to batik since childhood. According to Mr. Ghazali, batik was not foreign to him. During his childhood, he often visited and viewed batik activities carried out close to his home. From this, emerged his interest and desire to learn the processes of producing batik. Although he did not have any tertiary education, arts and culture have always been his passion. Once he completed his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), he began his batik art activities by drawing batik on the sidewalks around the city and on the beach of Kuantan, Teluk Cempedak.
With great determination and courage, he opened his own batik factory in Semambu in the late 80’s and by 2004, his batik factory was relocated to Balok. Balok is a more promising location as it is situated along the beaches and is a popular tourist attraction. Since then, he began the famous batik products and secured a place in the local market.
