Napoleon Dynamite Review
By Alan Yu 9K
Directed by Jared and Jerusha Hess and starring Jon Heder, Napoleon Dynamite is not your everyday movie as it doesn't really have a decisive plot, climax or resolution. The movie takes place in Idaho where it merges around a quirky teenager named Napoleon Dynamite and his experiences living at home with his grandma and his 32 year old brother who "chats online with babes all day". His days at high school are tough along with his only two friends, Pedro and Deb. The main mission in this film was when Napoleon helped his friend, Pedro, to win class presidency
At first you would think that the movie was set decades ago as Napoleon's clothing and style is old-fashioned, however the movie is supposed to be set in the present day. It is not just Napoleon Dynamites lack of fashion or coolness, but also his whole family. Whether it be Kip (brother) having an "online sweetheart" called Lafonda, or Uncle Rico's deserted videos of his desire to play football, none of Napoleons family members seem to belong in the movie. This was one of the reasons why the movie was intriguing as viewers were surprised to see how Napoleon and his family live their lives.
The most used angle shot in this movie was the medium shot. This movie had little dialogue and it had many awkward scenes where it zooms in on a characters expressions. However the few times that the characters had dialogue, they revealed lots of information.
