My favorite place to visit is my friend Terry's cabin in Truckee, California. Truckee is in Northern California and driving through the long, tree covered roads is the most beautiful sight. The pine and cedar tree scents are the most wonderful, relaxing feeling I can experience. Just knowing that I am far from the city life and freeway's stressful driving gives the feeling of almost being carefree. When I drove through Auburn, California and the National Forrest the drive was so beautiful and peaceful that it almost made me forget I had to return to the real life; the city.
My friend's cabin is in the middle of no-where and in the middle of the forest; miles away from the city. The cabin is set in a small clearing in the woods, where the beams of sunlight shimmered through the leaves. The cabin is near a crystal water lake where the snow looks like powder sugar. The snow crystals are glistening like diamonds off the cabins roof. The scent of the pine cedar and blew through my nose. The musty smell of smoke drifted from the log fire place in the corner of the cabin. It was surreal! Something like a fairytale, plain and beautiful like an enchanted forest.
I remember the first time I drove to my friend's cabin fall was just ending and winter was beginning. When I drove thru Auburn, California is when I fell in love with this small city. As you drive to Auburn there is a giant old bridge that marks the beginning of Auburn. This old bridge hangs high with an old train on it. The leaves colors are so vivid it is unbelievable, they where reddish, orangey and yellowy so bright they hurt your eyes. It was the first time seeing the seasons change like an image from a post card.
As I passed Auburn I drove into the National Forest. I had to stop at by the ranger's station since there was sign in the road that said "chains required." I was told by the Ranger that I was headed into a storm or it might have already passed through. As I looked over I could see the trees, they where humongous, bigger than life size trees. As I drove in the middle of the forest snow began to fall. It was my first time being in snow fall and driving through the snow. The roads, trees and cabins were all covered in white powdered snow. The forest looks like a scene from a movie just like a white Christmas. Driving through the snow felt like if I was playing centipede video game. As if the snow was coming to me but really it was going away from me.
As I arrived to Truckee, California all I can see was a white powdered covered cabin. I can barely see the door. During the winter season it was feverish. The cabin back yard was a giant slope. During the winter it would fill up with plods of snow. It was my first time being at her cabin during the
